The View From Here

Every morning, the Baroness plops her regal tush down and ponders. What could I possibly write today that makes any difference at all?

Some days, the words flow with ease and effortlessness. Other days, I sit. And sit. And as I sit, and begin to panic, and my eyes dart around the room in my charming distractable way, I always am, without fail, drawn like a magnet to this postcard which has been tacked to my inspiration board for years and years:

Child on Forest Road
1958
Photograph by Wynn Bullock

As I begin to get lost within the picture, my normally anxious nature quiets. One would think that the opposite would occur, given the enormity of the landscape versus the weensiness of the toddler. But no.

In a catalogue from one of his 2002 exhibits, there is a description that sums it up beautifully:
"...he presents humanity without sin in a
world without danger"

For an opportunity to view more of his work, go here.

As you wander through your day, may you discover wonder and exploration, nature and stillness.

What a beautiful beautiful picture. Alas, I will have to save the link for another night. If this is a taste his work, I know I am going to love it.

Wonder - check. (I wonder why I packed so much crap that I won't even use.)

Exploration -- check. (Hiked Reagan National airport end-to-end, while waiting for my flight. OK, so it was only about 100 yards. I still explored, so it counts.)

Nature -- check. Watching the sunset from above the clouds is way way cool. The sky was unbelievably beautiful.

Stillness -- check. I actually SLEPT on the plane. Can I get a "hallelujah"?!?!?!

What an absolutely amazing picture. I collect vintage photographs, and if I had seen that lying in a basket at a flea market, I would have snapped it up poste haste.

I LOVE this image. LOVE it.

The words aren't always going to flow. It doesn't mean they aren't there, it means they're percolating, whether you know it or not. Time, my friend.

Countess MPM: It is, isn't it? I never ever tire of looking at this.

Countess NATUI: I have to say, I'm more a fan of his landscape pictures than most of his portraits. There's one in particular I find a little jarring - see if you can guess which one.

Countess Bab-ora the Airport Explora: Halle-frickin'-lujah! To sleep on a plane, perchance to dream? Good for you!

Countess BA: Strangely enough, I think that this postcard was part of a set of 12 that I got from an art gallery black/white photo exhibit. I originally got it for the Ansel Adams, but it turns out that it's the only one I kept!

Countess Maggie: Hmmm. Percolating.
Percolating words. Percolating coffee. Interesting how the two go hand in hand, non? Thank you for the words of encouragement - they mean a lot!
