A Glowing Light

Whilst stalking, er, following my newest favorite Scottish actor, the very fine James McAvoy (who replaces him)(who's a bit of a man-whore)(oh, maybe I'll keep both), The Baroness came across one of his movies last night - "Becoming Jane".

While I'm a sucker for all of these period pieces (even with their lack of shiny), the line that transfixed me was one between Jane Austen and her cousin Cassandra on a story Jane was thinking of.

Cassandra: Will it be a happy marriage?

Jane: It will be an incadescent marriage.

Wow.

Incandescent.

That there be a powerful word - bringing forth both sighs and envy.

For today, put aside both your pride and your prejudice. By whatever means necessary - try to bring that brilliance, that luminosity into your union.

Only happy endings can come of it.

We Scots produce brooding gentlemen (although Billy Connolly might be an exception...) I liked James McAvoy in that crazy funny Brit comedy show "Shameless". That show is so trashy and funny it should win something important like a big cake.

Guv: Like a big cake, with you and me jumping out of the middle? Fun!

Haven't heard of "Shameless", but will check it out on our BBC station.

As for the also-lovely Billy Connolly, I'm sure he might be a closet brooder. Love him, too!

Countess iPost: I'm ashamed to say that I've never actually read any Jane Austen. But I did see the BBC version of "Pride and Prejudice" and absolutely loved it. Maybe it's time to start looking into her work further...

McAvoy?

You must watch "The Last King of Scotland." He holds his own against Forrest Whitaker . . .

Count Daddy: Mmmmmm. Yes, I am aware.

And damn if you're not brilliant holding your own against Idi Amin!

Yes, I fell for McAvoy during "Atonement," just as I fell for his fellow Scotsman, Gerard Butler, during "300." Three hundred Spartans, eighteen hundred abs. :-)

I've been partial to Scotsmen since the Bay City Rollers captured my attention in the 70s.

Peace - D

300 was the bomb!
I will have to work on the glowing marriage thing. Do I get points for duration as well as illumination?

Countess RiverPoet: Oh, those BCR!
Such beloved hokeyness draped in tartan.

Countess AG: I think once your lightbulb glows solid for more that 15 years, duration is definitely an asset!!

Excellent sentiment. I shall try.

Countess NATUI: Intent is half the gesture, in my estimation.
